Warriors' late comeback falls short in 103-102 loss vs. Clippers

Image
Heading into the fourth quarter on Monday night at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, the Golden State Warriors trailed the  Los Angeles Clippers  by 12 points. In a dramatic fourth quarter that saw  Steve Kerr ejected  and Steph Curry fouling out, the Warriors still outscored the Clippers 38-27 in the final 12 minutes. However, a missed turnaround jumper from Jimmy Butler in the final seconds of the game marked Golden State's comeback short in a 103-102 loss to the Clippers on Monday night. Curry finished with a game-high 27 points on 9-for-23 shooting from the field with four made triples to go along with six assists and four boards in 33 minutes. With under two minutes remaining, Curry knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to get Golden State within one point of Los Angeles. Yet, on the next possession, Curry committed his sixth foul of the game and was sent to the bench with 42 seconds on the clock and the Warriors trailing by three.

Your photos of snowy scenes across the UK for the return to work

Image
If the return to work and school after the festive break wasn't tough enough, more snowfall overnight meant  Monday's commute was even trickier for large parts of the UK . Parts of northern Scotland were reporting over 50cm (20in) of lying snow, with drifting snow even deeper. As temperatures dropped well below freezing again in most parts of the UK, icy conditions were an added challenge. Despite the blocked roads, rail lines closures, cancelled flights and schools shut, BBC Weather Watchers have been out capturing the beauty and fun of the ongoing Arctic blast.

In Rama Duwaji’s New York, everyone is entitled to a little glamour

Image
On a frigid New Year’s Day, New York’s new democratic socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani was sworn in, with his wife, Rama Duwaji, alongside him, grabbing attention for her romantic brown frock coat, trimmed at the hem and cuffs with chocolate faux fur. For political wives, the inauguration coat is an agenda-setter – the first statement on how someone who may or may not have aspired to be a public symbol will navigate the always-tricky, often exasperating act of using clothes to elucidate or complement her husband’s administration. In 2009, Michelle Obama wore a chartreuse coat and matching dress by the Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo – hardly a household name like first lady go-tos Oscar de la Renta or Ralph Lauren, and a signal that Obama would direct the inevitable attention on her wardrobe to smaller-scale American designers, often people of color and small business owners. In 2017, Melania Trump chose a powder blue cashmere Ralph Lauren sheath with a 1960s feel, perhaps a ...

Tariffs could really sting in 2026. Unless Trump chickens out again

Image
It’s cold comfort for Americans gloomy about the state of the US economy, but President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs didn’t dramatically raise the cost of living in 2025. That could change in 2026. The United States collected $187 billion more in tariff revenue in 2025 than it did in 2024, a nearly 200% increase. Who paid all that? Mostly businesses, which footed roughly 80% of the tariff bill last year. But businesses are starting to pass those costs along to customers, and that 80% could shrink to 20% later this year, according to JPMorgan. “A lot of our clients really didn’t want to pass the costs on, but now they’re really having to,” said Kyle Peacock, principal at Peacock Tariff Consulting. Many have opted to do so immediately at the start of the new year, while others are planning to wait until later in the first or second quarter, he said. Items with low profit margins, including groceries, may be among the first to rise next year. A looming spike in prices sets up a t...

Angelina Jolie visits Rafah Crossing as Gaza aid groups face Israeli suspension

Image
Angelina Jolie, the actress and former special envoy to the United Nations Refugee Agency, visited the Rafah Crossing on Friday as part of a humanitarian trip to Egypt, according to a statement from Jolie’s representatives. Her visit comes as Israel said it will suspend the operations of dozens of aid groups working in the Gaza Strip. “I spoke to humanitarian agencies who are working hard to do their best to overcome the restrictions and challenges of delivering necessary aid into Gaza. I walked through a large warehouse that was full of items that were denied entry, most of them medical, Jolie said in a statement. Earlier this week, Israel said it will suspend the operations of international aid groups that did not renew their registration, which includes requiring organizations working in Gaza to provide personal details of their staff members. Aid agencies have repeatedly voiced concerns over those requirements, citing the safety of their employees. Israel’s move com...
